Ghost Gun Myths: “Undetectable” Firearms Explained | NSSF Fast Facts

There has been a lot of media attention recently regarding so-called “Ghost Guns.” Unfortunately many of the claims are not based on facts. It’s essential to note that the term Ghost Gun is one created by anti-gun groups and the homemade firearms to which they are referring don’t present a public safety problem. Furthermore, all firearms created for personal use or for sale by a licensed manufacturer are subject to the 1968 Gun Control Act, the 1988 Undetectable Firearms Act, the National Firearms Act. These and other federal laws all govern firearms produced by a 3D printing process or any other process, just as they apply to conventional manufacturing processes using machine tools.
